College Gardens Walking Tour and Champagne Lunch
Thursday, 21 June, 2018

Thursday 21 June 2018

This visit provides an opportunity to see two Cambridge College gardens as introduced by their head gardeners.  Whether you are a keen gardener or whether you enjoy beautiful aspects in nature, this day has something for everyone.  We begin the day at Wolfson College, one of Cambridge’s youngest Colleges, catering mainly for graduate and foreign students.  Head Gardener Mr Phil Stigwood has created gardens that are a source of pride with speciality areas including Winter gardens, Antarctic garden, ‘bark berries and foliage garden’ as well clematis and rose gardens.  The College is regularly asked to provide tours and participates in the NGS Open Gardens network.  After a champagne and sandwich lunch, we will then walk the short distance to Selwyn College on Grange Road. The College was founded in 1880 in the Tudor Gothic style. Close to the Sidgwick site – home to many of the main lecture halls of the university, it is ideally placed. Alumni of the College include actor Hugh Laurie and author Robert Harris. The College has lovely grounds and beautiful herbaceous borders.  The day will finish mid-afternoon.

Cost: for the day is £28

Bookings are taken from 9:30 am 19 April with postal booking from 20 April.
