A visit to All Saints Church and Jesus College. Tuesday, 25th September 2018
Tuesday 25 September 2018

The Pre-Raphelite Riches of All Saints Church and Jesus College, Cambridge.

Our visit will include the early paintings, at All Saints in Jesus Lane, and the late paintings at Jesus College Chapel of our Pre-Raphaelite heroes, Maddox Brown, Burne-Jones, and Wm Morris in particular  - with other artists like Pugin and Bodley playing a key part in both places We will start the tour inside Westcott House, one of the university’s seminaries set up in the 1870s when the exclusion from Cambridge of non-Church of England scholars was finally lifted

Both church and chapel embrace High Victorian Culture through their reflection of Tractarian beliefs, the Arts & Crafts Movement and the triumph of our English style of architecture over that of the Neo-Gothic style, exemplified in the decade before All Saints was built by Giles Gilbert Scot’s chapel at St John’s College.

A visit to the college old library or a sculpture tour and lunch will also be enjoyed
